Jubei is the title held by Akane Yagyu, the granddaughter of Sekishusai Yagyu and a descendant of the Oni clan. Her identity gives her a direct connection to the earlier Jubei legacy, but her role in the story is not simply inherited. Akane must prove that she can carry the name without repeating the failures of the Yagyu who turned their strength toward selfish goals.

Akane’s defining trait is the Demon Eye, a rare sign of Oni blood within the Yagyu family. The eye gives her unusual awareness and supports her physical recovery, but it also represents the emotional burden she carries. Her power awakens during the destruction of the Yagyu Village, when Munenori attacks her family and gravely wounds Sekishusai.

Akane later encounters Soki while investigating rumors about the Blue Demon. Their first meeting becomes a fight because she assumes he is connected to the threat she is tracking. Once Genma appear, the two recognize their shared Oni power and cooperate against the invasion.

Jubei is one of the most agile melee characters in the party. Her attacks are designed to create pressure through speed rather than rely on slow, heavy strikes. She can move around opponents, punish recovery animations, and reach targets that are difficult for less mobile fighters to approach.

Her primary advantage is control over spacing. Instead of standing directly in front of a powerful Genma, move in for a short attack sequence and then reposition before the enemy can answer. This style is especially useful against enemies with wide swings, armor, or dangerous close-range effects.

Jubei’s weaknesses are equally important. Her speed can encourage players to attack too aggressively, and rapid movement may place her behind an enemy without a safe escape route. She also performs less consistently when surrounded by several opponents with overlapping attack ranges.

Core combat habits:

• Lock onto the most dangerous target before starting an attack string.
• Attack after a missed swing, stagger, or recovery animation.
• Avoid spending every resource on minor enemies if a boss encounter is nearby.
• Use the environment to separate enemies instead of fighting an entire group at once.
• Treat mobility as defense; a fast character does not need to block every attack.

The Demon Eye is central to Jubei’s identity and progression. It first appears as a source of pain and confusion, then becomes a power she learns to control. This change mirrors her character arc: the eye is not merely a damage boost, but a test of whether she can remain herself while using Oni strength.

In battle, Oni power is most valuable when it changes the outcome of an encounter. Activating it against a nearly defeated enemy may waste its potential unless the transformation also prevents an incoming threat. Save it for situations where you need to break pressure, defeat a dangerous target, or create an opening for the rest of the party.

Jubei’s power should be paired with party coordination. Soki can draw attention and create room for Akane, while ranged or support-oriented allies can punish enemies distracted by her attacks. Switching characters is often safer than forcing Jubei to solve every encounter alone.

Akane’s story begins with the Yagyu succession and the destruction of her village. After becoming Jubei, she leaves to pursue Munenori. Her path eventually brings her into contact with Soki, Tenkai, Ohatsu, Roberto, and the wider conflict against Hideyoshi and the Genma.

Her personal rivalry remains active even after she joins the larger campaign. Munenori repeatedly escapes, gains additional power, and attempts to use the Yagyu legacy as justification for his actions. This makes each confrontation more than a standard boss encounter: Jubei is fighting to establish that the name she carries does not belong to him.

Against Munenori, patience is more important than constant aggression. His dual-blade style can overwhelm players who attack without checking his spacing. Keep enough room to recognize his approach, punish the end of his sequence, and avoid chasing him into a position where the camera or environment limits movement.

At Nagoya Castle, Akane confronts the truth behind Munenori’s Demon Eye and realizes that his betrayal cannot be excused by misunderstanding alone. Their final duel in Kyoto completes her personal mission. She defeats him despite his increased Genma power, proving that the Jubei name is defined by discipline and responsibility rather than raw strength.
