Normal attacks are only part of the combat system. Guard against predictable attacks, move away from long enemy combinations, and punish enemies after their attacks miss.

• Learn the reach and speed of your current weapon.
• Attack after an enemy finishes its animation.
• Use blocking and movement instead of trading damage.

Defeated Genma release souls that can restore resources or contribute to progression. Absorbing them consistently is one of the most important habits in the game.

• Clear nearby enemies before standing still to absorb souls.
• Collect red souls for weapon development.
• Do not leave a cleared room until nearby souls have been collected.

Weapon development consumes valuable souls, so upgrading every new weapon immediately can leave the entire party underpowered.

• Choose one dependable weapon for each frequently used character.
• Prioritize weapons with useful attack patterns and properties.
• Avoid spending heavily on equipment you plan to replace immediately.

Soki is powerful, but Jubei, Ohatsu, Tenkai, and Roberto have different ranges, speeds, weapons, and exploration advantages.

• Use Jubei when speed is more useful than raw reach.
• Use Ohatsu when ranged pressure is safer.
• Use Tenkai for reach and Roberto for aggressive close-range combat.

You normally travel with another playable character. A properly equipped partner adds damage and gives you another combat option when Soki is struggling.

• Equip the active partner before entering a difficult area.
• Switch characters when health, position, or enemy type favors the partner.
• Do not allow secondary characters to fall far behind in weapon strength.

Soki's Oni abilities provide a major power spike and are most valuable against bosses, elite Genma, or dangerous groups.

• Avoid activating Oni power for a nearly defeated normal enemy.
• Use it when a boss exposes a long damage window.
• Combine transformations with your strongest upgraded equipment.

Later encounters are much more demanding than ordinary early-stage enemies, making careless healing one of the easiest ways to create problems for yourself.

• Use soul recovery and safe play before consuming valuable medicine.
• Enter obvious boss areas with a healthy inventory.
• Save stronger restorative items for boss fights and late-game sequences.

Stages contain treasure, equipment, recovery items, puzzle rewards, and optional encounters away from the direct route.

• Inspect dead ends before using obvious progression doors.
• Break containers and searchable environmental objects.
• Return to earlier areas when new character abilities open additional interactions.

Raw attack power is not the only useful stat. Weapon properties, elemental effects, and accessories can make particular encounters much easier.

• Compare weapon properties before automatically equipping the highest attack value.
• Change equipment when a boss or enemy type is giving you trouble.
• Keep specialized gear instead of treating every lower-damage item as useless.

Large chambers, dramatic transitions, and story-heavy areas frequently lead into difficult encounters or bosses.

• Use save points whenever you encounter them.
• Check equipment before progressing past a save point.
• Organize healing items and partner equipment before continuing.
