Ophelia is one of the most important Genma antagonists in Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. Known as “the Priestess,” she serves within the Genma hierarchy below Fortinbras and operates as both a caretaker and manipulator. Her importance comes from more than her combat power: she protects the rebirth plan, maintains Genma interests, and uses trusted identities to influence human characters.

Unlike a straightforward warrior, Ophelia relies on deception. She can control minds through a mysterious mask and alter her appearance to mislead enemies. Her disguise as Yodo allows her to approach the heroes while concealing her true allegiance. This makes her a story-driven villain whose powers directly support the game’s themes of corruption, divided loyalty, and hidden motives.

Ophelia’s story is connected to several major events surrounding the Genma resurgence. Her actions are not limited to one battle or one location. She influences political conflict, protects corrupted figures, and attempts to complete the ritual connected to the God of Light.

Her disguise as Yodo is particularly important. It allows her to deceive Ohatsu and interfere with the Oni-aligned group. Once the deception is exposed, Ophelia reveals a form that differs sharply from the insect-like appearance associated with many other Genma. She then escapes in an unusual state, reducing herself to a dark puddle rather than simply retreating as a physical creature.

Ophelia’s battles reward patience and target prioritization. Her strength comes from forcing the party to divide attention between her movements and the Genma she summons. A reckless attack sequence can leave the active character exposed while additional enemies close in.

The first major encounter is associated with the ruins of a destroyed village in Kyushu. Ophelia initially appears through her Yodo disguise before revealing her Genma nature. Her true form is a human-and-moth hybrid, visually distinct from the more completely insect-like Genma. She can be defeated during the encounter but escapes by dissolving into a small dark puddle.

She appears again at Nagoya Castle, where the surrounding objective is more important than a simple damage race. Her actions involving Munenori and the Space Folder move the story toward Kyoto and the descent of the Omen Star.

The Genma Seed is another central connection. Ophelia nurtures the seed implanted in Hideyoshi’s chest and watches over him to ensure that he remains committed to the resurrection plan. Later, after Hideyoshi is defeated, she removes the seed and attempts to use it to summon the God of Light. Her failure results from Yodo retaining consciousness within the Genma Mother Tree, allowing one of its roots to impale Ophelia.
